WSIB Regulation 1101: First Aid Requirements
WSIB Regulation 1101 is a legally binding regulation that outlines the minimum first aid requirements for all Ontario workplaces. It mandates the presence of trained first aiders, properly stocked first aid kits, and accessible first aid stations to ensure prompt response to workplace injuries. Compliance with Regulation 1101 is essential to avoid fines and maintain WSIB compliance.
Key Requirements of Regulation 1101
Trained First Aiders:
5 or fewer employees per shift: At least one worker must hold an Emergency First Aid certificate (6.5-hour course).
6 or more employees per shift: At least one worker must hold a Standard First Aid certificate (13-hour course).
Training must be delivered by a WSIB-approved provider, with certifications valid for three years.
First Aid Kits:
Kits must meet standards based on workforce size (e.g., Section 8 for 1–5 workers, Section 9 for 6–15 workers, Section 10 for 16–199 workers).
Kits must include items like CPR masks, non-latex gloves, and bandages, and be inspected quarterly.
First Aid Stations:
Workplaces must have a designated station with kits and a WSIB Form 82 notice listing trained first aiders.
Record-Keeping:
Maintain records of certifications, kit inspections, and first aid treatments.
Larger Workplaces:
Workplaces with 16+ employees may require additional kits or a first aid room.
